How we recruit
CCW wants the best available person for the
job and appoints solely on merit after fair and open competition.
We are politically impartial and show no prejudice or favour on any
grounds.
Here’s a brief run-down of our recruitment process:
- We advertise job vacancies widely.
- We require you to complete an application form.
- We sift through the forms to select you for interview and
further assessment.
- We assess you fairly using selection methods and criteria that
are objective and relevant to the job concerned.
- We satisfy ourselves about your health, character, ability to
work in the UK and previous work record when we appoint you.
Advertising vacancies
We advertise job vacancies widely. We advertise all vacancies on
this website. Depending on the type of vacancy, we also advertise
in:
- job centres
- employment agencies
- national, local and specialist press
- other relevant websites.
Selecting for interview
We sift through the forms to select people for interview and
further assessment.
We will normally acknowledge receipt of applications either by
e-mail or letter within 7-10 days of the closing date. You are
welcome to phone the recruitment team to check receipt of your
application form beforehand if you are concerned.
A selection board of up to three people sifts through the
applications. They consider all applications carefully against the
requirements for the post. The board draws up a list of people they
wish to interview. We generally short-list between 2 and 7 people
for a job. We will invite them for a selection interview and other
selection tests.
Assessing suitability
We assess people fairly using selection methods and criteria
that are objective and relevant to the job concerned.
We test you against the competencies for the post using a range
of selection methods.
There will be a recruitment interview where the selection panel
will question you. There may be other selection methods such as
ability and aptitude tests, sample work exercises, practical
assessments, giving a presentation, psychometric tests or role
plays.
Once you have completed the selection process, you are marked
and placed in order of merit. If you are the highest marked
candidate, we offer you the job.
We let you know the selection results as soon as possible. We
confirm our offer in writing. If successful we expect you to start
within five to eight weeks, and always within three months. If
unsuccessful you may ask for feedback – e-mail or phone the
recruitment team who will arrange it for you.
Checking your background
We satisfy ourselves about your health, character, ability to
work in the UK and previous work record when we appoint.
Health
We must be sure you are able to carry out the duties of the post
– with adjustments as necessary to accommodate any disabilities. We
check your health by asking you to complete a health declaration
form.
Character and previous work record
You must be trustworthy and reliable. So you shouldn’t have done
or be likely to do anything that may discredit CCW. You must
complete a character enquiry form and nominate referees for us to
contact before your appointment is confirmed.
Ability to work in the UK
You must be legally entitled to work in the UK and not subject
to any immigration control. We check your passport, residence
permit or other relevant documents prior to confirming your
appointment.
