Examples of work achieved by Local Authorities with support from a CCW grant

Newport schools biodiversity project, in partnership with Newport City Council
In August 2009, Newport City Council became the first local authority to have a Biodiversity Officer dedicated to schools. The new Biodiversity in Schools Officer, grant aided by CCW, is responsible for helping schools to enhance their grounds both as an educational resource and as a haven for wildlife within the city.

Conserving Little Terns, Gronant Dunes, in partnership with Denbighshire County Council
Gronant, near the mouth of the Dee Estuary, supports Wales' only remaining colony of breeding little terns.


Examples of work achieved by CCW’s strategic partnerships with support of our grant aid

Working with the Wildlife Trusts
CCW provides grant aid to all six of Wales’ Wildlife Trusts through their umbrella organisation, Wildlife Trusts Wales. An agreement, developed recently, sets out plans for joint working to create a healthy and diverse natural environment for wildlife and people over the next three years. In 2009/10 the CCW grant of £368,966 to the Wildlife Trusts resulted in combined activity (added value work) worth £1,117,896.

Working with the RSPB
CCW’s grant to the RSPB over the next three years will total around £400,000 for that period. This substantial grant helps biodiversity across a broad spectrum of activities, including: Caring for Chough.

BTCV - RESTART (Rhyl Environmental Skills Training & Referral Team),- FEI
Volunteers have undertaken a range of Agored Cymru units in employability and conservation skills. They have gained qualifications in LANTRA brushcutter and strimming, First Aid, and Risk Assessment and have completed LANTRA training in fencing and in dry stone walling.


Examples of work achieved by voluntary and third sector organisations with support from a CCW grant

Helping the wider community take action for biodiversity in partnership with the Shared Earth Trust.
The Shared Earth Trust, based at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre in Betws Bledrws near Lampeter is working on two initiatives, supported by CCW.

Both projects - Biodiversity's the Business and the Wildlife Helpline for Landowners - aim to engage the wider community with nature.

Daerwynno Forest Project Helps the Community
Using the environment to build confidence and improve peoples’ health and wellbeing – that was the aim of an innovative project with help from a grant by the Countryside Council for Wales in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Crossroads Allotment Project
BTCV have been working in partnership with Crossroads Young Carers Allotment Project since March 2010.

Venture Out Cardiff / Mentro Allan Project Cardiff
BTCV has developed a partnership with the Venture Out Cardiff / Mentro Allan Project in Cardiff. This project provides opportunities outdoors for adults with disabilities.

Bont Byw
Run by Sustainable Swansea in the Pontarddulais area, the initiative aims to raise people’s awareness of how to live in a green, sustainable way and put great ideas into practice.
