Celebrate World Wetlands Day
The second of February every year is World Wetlands Day. Over 2,000 wetlands around the world have been designated as Ramsar sites to mark their international importance for wetland wildlife. There are 169 Ramsar sites in the United Kingdom, most of these are nature reserves and many are easy to visit.

National Trails stride forward with new promotion partner
Natural England and the Countryside Council for Wales have unveiled exciting new arrangements for promoting National Trails with the announcement that Walk England have won the contract to manage all promotional activity for the 15 National Trails in England and Wales from April 2013.

Draft map consultation closed
The Countryside Council for Wales is reminding landowners and user groups that the deadline for submitting representations on the new draft maps of open access land is 23 November 2012.

Non Native blitz in the Wye Valley
Work started last week (22 October 2012) to clear non-native cherry laurel from woodlands of European importance - Piercefield Woods and Blackcliff - Wyndcliff woodlands, just north of Chepstow in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Local officer awarded for fight against wildlife crime
Today (6 October) Sergeant Rob Taylor of North Wales Police was awarded runner up for the WWF-sponsored UK Wildlife Law Enforcer of the Year award, for his hard work and dedication to tackling wildlife crime.
