What is CAN?

Communities and Nature (CAN), to be co-ordinated by CCW, is one of the strategic projects being put forward to deliver the Environment for Growth (Priority 4, Theme 3) of the Convergence Programme.

CAN Handbook

The CAN Handbook is intended as a guide to best practice within your CAN initiative. It is made up of 12 chapters plus 5 annexes.

Each CAN initiative has its own requirements, so please speak to your CAN Lead Officer if you cannot find the information you need within the Handbook.

Procurement

Activities under Communities and Nature are being invited directly via Sell2Wales, except for CCW’s own activities.

CCW’s joint sponsor, Environment Agency Wales, is also carrying out procurement via Sell2Wales under the banner of Wild Fishing Wales.

CCW Initiatives

CCW has several of its own initiatives under CAN. These are as follows:

Wild Fishing Wales

Wild Fishing Wales is led by Environment Agency Wales with significant elements being delivered by community groups throughout the Convergence area.

Communities and Nature is one of several strategic projects operating under Priority 4 Theme 3 ‘Environment for Growth’ of the Convergence Programme for West Wales and the Valleys 2007 – 2013. Please follow the links below for information on the other projects:

Cadw - Heritage Tourism
The £19m Heritage Tourism Project will maximise the economic value of heritage through increasing the volume, length and value of visits to Wales.

Visit Wales - Coastal Tourism & Sustainable Tourism
The coastal tourism project will be seeking to implement key, eligible elements of the coastal tourism strategy.

Valleys Regional Park
The Valleys Regional Park project is going to develop, expand and enhance the unique tourism potential of the south Wales valleys.

Heads of the Valleys
The Heads of the Valleys - Tourism project will establish the area as a successful day visitor destination, extracting maximum economic value from a range of tourism sites thus contributing to a sustainable future for the host communities.
