How to use the Open Access Definitive map

The maps stored here are the original draft provisional and conclusive (definitive) maps that were issued when CCW went through the consultation process as a result of the Countryside and Rights Of Way Act 2000.

Using the map

These maps are all static image maps, which means that you can’t interact with them as you can with the ‘Countryside Access’ maps. Each consultation area is made up of a set of maps, which can be viewed in closer detail for the purposes of Solicitors land searches for instance.

Choosing a consultation area

You can do this by either clicking on the map or on one of the A to O options on the bottom left of the screen.

About the General Information page

You can find background information about the CROW open access maps here and the three stages that we went through to produce the conclusive (definitive) maps

Click on the overview map of Wales in the bottom left hand corner to discover how to change consultation area or go back to the original ‘All Wales’ map.

Click on each of the following buttons to see what they do:

Contact us - which can be used for any queries about these pages
Back - which takes you back to the previous page
Cymraeg - which allows you to view these pages in Welsh

How do I find the right map for my chosen consultation area?

Click on either the draft, provisional or conclusive buttons

You will see an outline map for your chosen consultation area and type of map. You can also swap between the draft, provisional and conclusive versions of the consultation area map.

How do I view the maps themselves?

Click with your mouse on one of the yellow box squares that form the consultation area. A new page will be displayed with a ‘zoomed in’ section of the map made up of nine squares for the area of land that you have chosen to view.

Moving the maps around

Click on the orange arrows with your mouse to move up, down, left or right to see areas of the map outside of your chosen area.

Is there a closer view of my map?

Use your mouse again to click on any of the nine yellow box squares and see a more detailed view of that particular square.

Can I print the map?

Our OS copyright licence only allows you to make a paper copy of the map image showing on the screen

How do I go back to my starting place?

Click on the ‘Back’ button to go back to the previous page.

If you have any problems following these instructions or need more information please use the ‘Contact us’ button to request additional help from our Countryside Team.
