Help with the site

When you’re using the CCW website, it’s important that you are comfortable navigating through the various chapters and pages – we want your web experience to be as intuitive as possible. There are a number of site features designed to help you on your CCW journey…

The site can be navigated in the following ways:

  • The chapter navigation menu.  Located at the top of the page, the menu can be used to link to the main content sections on the site, such as the ‘Environmental change’ or ‘Publications & research’ chapters.

  • The chapter’s main content menus. On the left side of the screen, allowing users to explore specific topics of interest within the chapter currently being viewed

  • Using one of our ‘friendly’ web addresses e.g. www.ccw.gov.uk/habitatsandspecies

  • The breadcrumb trail. This trail shows the location of the page in the website's structure. You can use the links in this trail to go back to the main chapter page and the home page - effectively retracing your steps from the beginning.

For example, if the crumb trail reads:

    Home Page > Landscape & wildlife > Habitats & species > Terrestrial > Habitats

You can retrace your steps back to the home page, or the habitats and species chapter, or even the terrestrial section – directly.

  • The site map. Listing every chapter and page in the website, displaying how these chapters relate to each other in turn. A grasp of the site structure can help you get a clearer feel for the site navigation, allowing you to pinpoint relevant topics.

  • The site A – Z. A complete index of the areas housed within the site. Simply put, look for badgers in 'b' and maps in 'm'. It's that easy.
