Accessibility statement

The Countryside Council for Wales champions the environment and landscapes of Wales and aims to make the environment a valued part of everyone's life within the country. Our new website is part of these efforts, and we want to ensure the site can be enjoyed by everyone. It’s therefore important that our web accessibility standards are extremely high.

Through our website we hope to make access to our work, and the wonders of the Welsh environment, more easily available to all.

CCW is therefore committed to making its website fully accessible to all members of society.

The website has been carefully designed - and strict standards have been put in place - to ensure that users with disabilities can easily access the information contained within it, including users who may be blind or partially sighted. We also make sure that those users who have reading difficulties are able to use the site.

We have followed the guidelines set down by the W3C (World wide web consortium) to ensure that, for example, the coding of our site supports screen readers (technology that allows the site to be 'read' for the visually impaired or blind).

The CCW site will soon be in receipt of the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB)'s 'See It Right' Accessible Website logo.

The logo is given by the RNIB to websites which RNIB have formally assessed and which provide a high standard of accessibility. Our site is soon to be audited by the RNIB.

CCW's website makes use of valid XHTML code and CSS styles.

We aim to comply with WAI-AA accessibility standards [WCAG 1.0], and the vast majority of our web pages reach this standard. We will also soon be pursuing the WCAG 2.0 standard.

New to the web?

Using new technology can be confusing at first. If you are not familiar with using the web, there are many free online courses available, including the excellent Webwise service from the BBC. These courses are free and ideal for beginners.
