Reptiles and Amphibians research
Sand lizard and natterjack toads
The sand lizard and natterjack toad have been the main focus of
research in recent years thanks to UKBAP action and re-introduction
programmes CCW has also contributed to database work to capture all
the relevant information for sand lizard and natterjack sites in
the UK.
Great crested newt
CCW, on behalf of the UKBAP great crested newt steering group,
funded a desk study into methodologies that can be used to remove
fish from ponds containing crested newts. This work is now being
developed and an advice note is being prepared for conservation
management. Visit the Herpetological Conservation Trust
website for more details.
Increased access to the countryside
We also funded some interesting work on the likely impacts that
increased access to the countryside would have on reptiles and
amphibians. This was part of the study that helped formulate
policies in response to the changes in countryside access brought
about by the CROW Act.
