Flood risk management
Flooding and managing the risk of flooding is
a key part of water management and is important to thousands of
households and businesses throughout Wales.
CCW works with the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and
Internal Drainage Boards to ensure that environmental protection
and conserving biodiversity is integrated into managing flood
risk.
CCW staff are currently involved in the development of Catchment
Flood Management Plans, which will assess and determine the best
ways of managing flood risk in main catchments in Wales. This
could involve deciding which areas in a catchment could be
encouraged to flood for the benefit of wetlands.
