Burry Inlet SPA

The Burry Inlet is a large estuarine complex located between the Gower Peninsula and Llanelli in South Wales. It includes extensive areas of intertidal sand and mud-flats, together with large sand dune systems at the mouth of the estuary. The site contains the largest continuous area of saltmarsh in Wales. The Burry Inlet regularly supports large numbers of overwintering wildfowl and waders that feed in the saltmarshes and on the intertidal areas. Among many other species on this site, populations of Oystercatcher, Shoveler and Pintail are of international significance

Note that this advice was originally issued under Regulation 33 of the 1994 Habitats Regulations, which have been repealed by the 2010 regulations.
