Cardiff Beech Woods SAC

Cardiff Beech Woods SAC comprises an area of semi-natural broadleaved woodland dominated by beech. Cardiff Beech Woods is considered to be one of the best areas in the United Kingdom for beech forest, and represents the habitat close to the western limit of its range in both the UK and Europe. Notable species in the ground flora include herb paris, twayblade, sanicle, bird’s-nest orchid and yellow bird’s-nest orchid. The beech woods show mosaics of beech with other types of trees including ash and oak.
